00:00:01.463 --> 00:00:04.911
Welcome to Spotlight for Success by American Book Company.
00:00:04.911 --> 00:00:14.067
I am Devin Pintozzi, your host, and we are here at LeCue with Tyrella Bushnell, jag teacher from Calcasieu Parish.
00:00:14.067 --> 00:00:15.051
Welcome Tyrella.
00:00:15.099 --> 00:00:16.024
thank you, thank you.
00:00:16.480 --> 00:00:17.001
Wonderful.
00:00:17.001 --> 00:00:20.291
So tell us a little bit about yourself and what brings you to LeCue.
00:00:21.100 --> 00:00:23.088
Okay, my name is Tyrella Bushnell.
00:00:23.088 --> 00:00:28.181
I've been teaching at Sulphur High School now for about 11 years.
00:00:28.181 --> 00:00:33.436
I teach the JAG program there, which stands for Jobs for America's Graduate.
00:00:33.436 --> 00:00:35.701
It's a career readiness class.
00:00:35.701 --> 00:00:46.441
It transitions the students from high school to either a university or a two-year college, or just straight to the workforce, and we teach them practical lessons.
00:00:46.881 --> 00:00:47.564
Oh, that's wonderful.
00:00:47.564 --> 00:00:49.167
What age group is that?
00:00:50.189 --> 00:00:56.609
My class is from 10th through 12th but we do have a class for ninth graders only.
00:00:56.609 --> 00:00:58.353
But I'm more upperclassmen.
00:00:58.512 --> 00:01:01.344
Wow, what a great experience to be part of.
00:01:01.363 --> 00:01:01.784
Yes, I love it
00:01:01.844 --> 00:01:04.030
and I understand you just flew in, is that right?
00:01:04.250 --> 00:01:05.412
Just flew in from DC.
00:01:05.412 --> 00:01:08.450
This year was amazing.
00:01:08.450 --> 00:01:10.286
I have a student.
00:01:10.286 --> 00:01:14.969
She ran for a state seat for the state of Louisiana for the JAG program.
00:01:15.230 --> 00:01:15.510
Wow,
00:01:15.631 --> 00:01:16.233
and she won.
00:01:16.233 --> 00:01:17.914
She is the state ambassador
00:01:18.459 --> 00:01:18.558
Great.
00:01:18.760 --> 00:01:23.031
And we just flew in from Washington DC where she met Clay Higgins.
00:01:23.031 --> 00:01:28.522
She had a meeting with the chief of staff in Clay Higgins' office.
00:01:28.543 --> 00:01:28.603
Wow.
00:01:28.664 --> 00:01:33.793
She and the president of JAG and it was an amazing experience.
00:01:33.793 --> 00:01:35.243
They toured the White House.
00:01:35.243 --> 00:01:39.597
I think the best thing was the Secret Service was our tour guide.
00:01:39.918 --> 00:01:40.099
Wow,
00:01:40.420 --> 00:01:42.524
yeah, it was fabulous.
00:01:42.524 --> 00:01:45.969
They also were able to tour the Capitol
00:01:46.510 --> 00:01:47.171
Wonderful
00:01:49.302 --> 00:01:50.346
So it was amazing.
00:01:50.346 --> 00:01:53.799
It was a leadership academy Sorry, that's all right.
00:01:53.799 --> 00:02:04.114
It was a leadership academy out there, so they got to meet influential leaders and also learn how to become a leader.
00:02:04.114 --> 00:02:12.088
And she's going to also be going to Indianapolis in April, so it's been an amazing journey.
00:02:12.088 --> 00:02:16.069
I love seeing the spotlight come on for the students.
00:02:16.069 --> 00:02:22.049
I love when the students come back to me and say I've arrived, I'm successful, I made it
00:02:22.370 --> 00:02:22.711
Wonderful.
00:02:24.282 --> 00:02:29.633
And we also teach that university is not the only route to be successful.
00:02:29.633 --> 00:02:30.475
Wonderful.
00:02:30.475 --> 00:02:36.348
You can be successful with a two-year college with a trade, as long as you get some type of higher education.
00:02:36.367 --> 00:02:37.281
Oh, that is yeah,
00:02:37.381 --> 00:02:38.927
I really love teaching JAG.
00:02:39.381 --> 00:02:42.403
That is wonderful and associated with teaching JAG.
00:02:42.403 --> 00:02:47.653
What are you bringing to LACUE and what are you hoping to get back from the conference?
00:02:48.480 --> 00:02:49.223
I am right now.
00:02:49.223 --> 00:02:50.347
I'm fascinated with AI.
00:02:50.347 --> 00:02:59.493
Okay, and that is all the classes I've been taking everything with AI, ai, ai because it is the future.
00:02:59.493 --> 00:03:05.733
So I'm just trying to learn it better myself, better understand it, to help implement it in the classrooms.
00:03:06.259 --> 00:03:07.466
Oh, that is wonderful.
00:03:07.466 --> 00:03:11.411
And do you have anything you'd like to say to the audience?
00:03:12.881 --> 00:03:17.912
This is a wonderful conference and it's worth coming in, so thank you.
00:03:18.192 --> 00:03:22.390
All right, well, thank you so much, tyrella Bushnell with Calcasieu Parish.
00:03:22.390 --> 00:03:25.669
Thank you so much for being part of Spotlight for Success today.
00:03:26.289 --> 00:03:26.711
Thank you.
00:00:01.463 --> 00:00:04.911
00:00:04.911 --> 00:00:14.067
00:00:14.067 --> 00:00:15.051
00:00:15.099 --> 00:00:16.024
00:00:16.480 --> 00:00:17.001
00:00:17.001 --> 00:00:20.291
00:00:21.100 --> 00:00:23.088
00:00:23.088 --> 00:00:28.181
00:00:28.181 --> 00:00:33.436
00:00:33.436 --> 00:00:35.701
00:00:35.701 --> 00:00:46.441
00:00:46.881 --> 00:00:47.564
00:00:47.564 --> 00:00:49.167
00:00:50.189 --> 00:00:56.609
00:00:56.609 --> 00:00:58.353
00:00:58.512 --> 00:01:01.344
00:01:01.363 --> 00:01:01.784
00:01:01.844 --> 00:01:04.030
00:01:04.250 --> 00:01:05.412
00:01:05.412 --> 00:01:08.450
00:01:08.450 --> 00:01:10.286
00:01:10.286 --> 00:01:14.969
00:01:15.230 --> 00:01:15.510
00:01:15.631 --> 00:01:16.233
00:01:16.233 --> 00:01:17.914
00:01:18.459 --> 00:01:18.558
00:01:18.760 --> 00:01:23.031
00:01:23.031 --> 00:01:28.522
00:01:28.543 --> 00:01:28.603
00:01:28.664 --> 00:01:33.793
00:01:33.793 --> 00:01:35.243
00:01:35.243 --> 00:01:39.597
00:01:39.918 --> 00:01:40.099
00:01:40.420 --> 00:01:42.524
00:01:42.524 --> 00:01:45.969
00:01:46.510 --> 00:01:47.171
00:01:49.302 --> 00:01:50.346
00:01:50.346 --> 00:01:53.799
00:01:53.799 --> 00:02:04.114
00:02:04.114 --> 00:02:12.088
00:02:12.088 --> 00:02:16.069
00:02:16.069 --> 00:02:22.049
00:02:22.370 --> 00:02:22.711
00:02:24.282 --> 00:02:29.633
00:02:29.633 --> 00:02:30.475
00:02:30.475 --> 00:02:36.348
00:02:36.367 --> 00:02:37.281
00:02:37.381 --> 00:02:38.927
00:02:39.381 --> 00:02:42.403
00:02:42.403 --> 00:02:47.653
00:02:48.480 --> 00:02:49.223
00:02:49.223 --> 00:02:50.347
00:02:50.347 --> 00:02:59.493
00:02:59.493 --> 00:03:05.733
00:03:06.259 --> 00:03:07.466
00:03:07.466 --> 00:03:11.411
00:03:12.881 --> 00:03:17.912
00:03:18.192 --> 00:03:22.390
00:03:22.390 --> 00:03:25.669
00:03:26.289 --> 00:03:26.711
