Welcome to Spotlight for Success by American Book Company.
00:00:03.126 --> 00:00:05.493
I am Devin Pintosi, your host.
00:00:05.493 --> 00:00:13.474
We are here at LICU with Izzy Champagne, with Evergreen Junior High in Terrebonne, parish.
00:00:13.474 --> 00:00:14.401
Welcome Izzy.
00:00:14.723 --> 00:00:16.085
Hi, it's good to be here.
00:00:16.346 --> 00:00:18.992
Wow, I understand that you are an inclusion teacher.
00:00:18.992 --> 00:00:19.541
Is that right?
00:00:19.681 --> 00:00:20.503
Yes, I am.
00:00:20.884 --> 00:00:21.846
Oh, that's wonderful.
00:00:21.846 --> 00:00:25.152
So what brings you to the LICU Technology Conference?
00:00:25.239 --> 00:00:29.211
So I'm here presenting with my master's program at Nichols State University.
00:00:29.211 --> 00:00:34.953
This is a part of our master program where we come and we present our final proposals.
00:00:35.740 --> 00:00:36.786
Wow, that's wonderful.
00:00:36.786 --> 00:00:41.229
And so you said you're presenting proposals here at LICU.
00:00:41.469 --> 00:00:42.351
Yes, I have two.
00:00:42.351 --> 00:00:49.725
We were comparing AI profiles and the different ones, the big ones, chatgpt, copilot and Gemini.
00:00:49.725 --> 00:00:52.512
And then now I'm going into a gamification one.
00:00:53.320 --> 00:00:54.444
Wow, that is wonderful.
00:00:54.444 --> 00:00:59.240
And what are your teachers or the people that attend your sessions?
00:00:59.240 --> 00:01:00.563
What are they hoping to get out of that?
00:01:01.043 --> 00:01:07.665
So just really how to apply that AI to their programs and which one would suit them best in their educator role.
00:01:07.665 --> 00:01:17.028
Basically, like we compared how they produce information and what would be the best way to utilize that information for their content.
00:01:17.509 --> 00:01:19.793
Wow, that is wonderful Izzy.
00:01:19.793 --> 00:01:28.295
What did you learn initially that brought you into becoming an educator here in Louisiana?
00:01:29.521 --> 00:01:31.489
Well, I started off in nursing.
00:01:31.489 --> 00:01:36.893
I was in a nursing program for a good three semesters before I started working in an after-school program.
00:01:36.893 --> 00:01:55.811
There I actually worked with a couple of students who, like I, really connected with and we started talking about books and he got me to read the whole Harry Potter series and I really liked that genuine connection that I was able to make with these kids and I ended up switching my major after getting that position.
00:01:55.811 --> 00:02:01.233
So I realized that I really wanted to work with children more than I wanted to be a nurse.
00:02:02.200 --> 00:02:03.706
Oh wow, that is wonderful.
00:02:03.706 --> 00:02:06.356
And I wanted to be a nurse oh wow, that is wonderful.
00:02:06.356 --> 00:02:09.954
And so how do you feel that technology has helped you in the inclusion environment with your work?
00:02:10.760 --> 00:02:16.128
Yeah, so, being in inclusion, you're dealing with a lot of paperwork and a lot of different kids and different needs.
00:02:16.128 --> 00:02:38.381
So what I've taken which some inclusion teachers haven't gotten to really utilize yet is I will use AI to help me with my differentiation process and I'll input their accommodations and it'll give me a good range of how I can meet those students needs, especially dealing with IEP goals, making sure that I'm meeting all the goals to the best of our ability.
00:02:38.381 --> 00:02:49.360
Another thing I do is I'm able to take my anecdotal notes that I take on my students weekly and I'm able to make a generated report for their parent, whenever I do have IEP meetings, of what I've been seeing in class.
00:02:49.921 --> 00:02:51.425
Oh wow, that is wonderful.
00:02:51.465 --> 00:02:52.407
Cuts time in half.
00:02:52.606 --> 00:02:54.270
That is fantastic.
00:02:54.270 --> 00:02:54.852
That's great.
00:02:54.852 --> 00:02:57.905
What are you hoping to get out of LACUE here today?
00:02:58.926 --> 00:03:12.985
Definitely trying to take what I learn and give it back to my teachers, especially veteran teachers, who haven't really bridged the gap between just using the platform but using the more minute details of how they can make it more effective for the students.
00:03:13.548 --> 00:03:18.645
Oh, that's wonderful, and so would there be anything you'd like to share with the Likud community?
00:03:19.448 --> 00:03:31.343
Well, my biggest thing is not shying away from AI, because it's here to stay, and really just giving it to your students and showing them how to use it ethically, because your students are going to use it behind your back either way.
00:03:32.306 --> 00:03:33.408
That's a really good point.
00:03:33.408 --> 00:03:38.201
Well, thank you so much, Izzy Terrebonne-Parish, for participating with us here at LECU.
00:03:38.543 --> 00:03:39.663
Yes, thank you so much.
00:03:39.723 --> 00:03:40.104
Thank you.
00:03:40.104 --> 00:03:41.264
Have a good day you too.
