Welcome to Spotlight for Success.
00:00:02.528 --> 00:00:10.771
I am Devin Pintosa, your host here at LICU with Janice Spencer from Terrebonne Parish.
00:00:10.771 --> 00:00:12.032
Welcome, Janice.
00:00:12.073 --> 00:00:12.913
Thank you, Deb.
00:00:13.535 --> 00:00:14.115
All right.
00:00:14.115 --> 00:00:16.987
So I understand you're a counselor, is that right?
00:00:16.987 --> 00:00:18.431
Yes, okay.
00:00:18.431 --> 00:00:20.306
And what brings you to LICU?
00:00:21.620 --> 00:00:31.368
Just the opportunity to really learn more about technology in our schools and how to help support students with technology in the classrooms and just all around.
00:00:31.890 --> 00:00:32.792
Oh, that's wonderful.
00:00:32.792 --> 00:00:38.652
And what brought you initially to get into education as a counselor?
00:00:39.735 --> 00:00:49.229
So as a counselor, just family background, seeing the benefit that counselors had to my family personally, and then just the role that counselors play in general.
00:00:49.229 --> 00:00:55.706
They kind of are in the background but they really are MVPs as well, helping support students get to the next steps.
00:00:56.408 --> 00:00:57.070
That's great.
00:00:57.070 --> 00:01:04.352
Do you have any special memories that you can share about helping a student in your capacity as a counselor?
00:01:05.275 --> 00:01:10.686
Yes, every day I'm always seeing something that keeps me moving forward.
00:01:10.686 --> 00:01:16.006
Last year was my first year being the senior counselor, so that one was very monumental.
00:01:16.006 --> 00:01:27.688
The night of graduation, one of the students kind of lagged behind, and that particular student was one that I had to call personally to get out of the bed just to come to school, and so we had some challenges with that.
00:01:27.688 --> 00:01:40.769
And after graduation they stayed behind and said hey, I just want to tell you this, thank you for never giving up on me, because I am the first person or male to graduate in my family.
00:01:40.769 --> 00:01:45.128
So it essentially changed the generational trajectory for his whole family.
00:01:45.128 --> 00:01:50.670
So it was very eye-opening and moving and touching for me.
00:01:50.849 --> 00:01:52.572
Oh, my goodness, that is wonderful.
00:01:52.572 --> 00:01:55.865
To make a difference in an individual's life like that, that's great.
00:01:55.865 --> 00:01:58.593
And so here you are at the Q.
00:01:58.593 --> 00:02:03.400
Have you gotten anything out of a certain session that you enjoyed?
00:02:03.400 --> 00:02:04.040
Have you gotten?
00:02:04.060 --> 00:02:05.561
anything out of a certain session that you enjoyed.
00:02:05.561 --> 00:02:08.962
Yeah, both so far the sessions I've gone to have really spoke.
00:02:08.962 --> 00:02:11.883
I was scribbling and writing around the whole time.
00:02:11.883 --> 00:02:23.129
So more recently, the one about safety in our schools and how, again as a counselor capacity, we can work on some social, emotional as a component.
00:02:23.129 --> 00:02:29.992
So that was interesting and reassuring to what I do already to know that that's something that's needed.
00:02:30.533 --> 00:02:38.638
Oh, that's great, Janice, and is there anything you'd like to share with the Likud community here at the conference?
00:02:39.157 --> 00:03:01.680
Most definitely no-transcript.
00:03:02.840 --> 00:03:05.068
Thank you so much, and that's Janice, with Terrebonne Parish.
00:03:05.068 --> 00:03:07.727
Thank you so much for participating with us today.
00:03:07.927 --> 00:03:08.950
Thanks a bunch Deb.
00:03:10.294 --> 00:03:11.337
Good day you as well.
00:00:00.261 --> 00:00:02.528
00:00:02.528 --> 00:00:10.771
00:00:10.771 --> 00:00:12.032
00:00:12.073 --> 00:00:12.913
00:00:13.535 --> 00:00:14.115
00:00:14.115 --> 00:00:16.987
00:00:16.987 --> 00:00:18.431
00:00:18.431 --> 00:00:20.306
00:00:21.620 --> 00:00:31.368
00:00:31.890 --> 00:00:32.792
00:00:32.792 --> 00:00:38.652
00:00:39.735 --> 00:00:49.229
00:00:49.229 --> 00:00:55.706
00:00:56.408 --> 00:00:57.070
00:00:57.070 --> 00:01:04.352
00:01:05.275 --> 00:01:10.686
00:01:10.686 --> 00:01:16.006
00:01:16.006 --> 00:01:27.688
00:01:27.688 --> 00:01:40.769
00:01:40.769 --> 00:01:45.128
00:01:45.128 --> 00:01:50.670
00:01:50.849 --> 00:01:52.572
00:01:52.572 --> 00:01:55.865
00:01:55.865 --> 00:01:58.593
00:01:58.593 --> 00:02:03.400
00:02:03.400 --> 00:02:04.040
00:02:04.060 --> 00:02:05.561
00:02:05.561 --> 00:02:08.962
00:02:08.962 --> 00:02:11.883
00:02:11.883 --> 00:02:23.129
00:02:23.129 --> 00:02:29.992
00:02:30.533 --> 00:02:38.638
00:02:39.157 --> 00:03:01.680
00:03:02.840 --> 00:03:05.068
00:03:05.068 --> 00:03:07.727
00:03:07.927 --> 00:03:08.950
