Three, two, one.
00:00:02.369 --> 00:00:08.048
Welcome to Spotlight for Success brought to you by American Book Company.
00:00:08.048 --> 00:00:19.251
We are here at the Georgia Educational Technology Conference with our special guest, Candice Massa in Dodge County Middle School.
00:00:19.251 --> 00:00:21.259
Hi, Hello.
00:00:21.259 --> 00:00:23.306
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
00:00:24.321 --> 00:00:25.464
I work at the middle school.
00:00:25.464 --> 00:00:26.850
I teach eighth grade.
00:00:26.850 --> 00:00:28.283
I'm an English teacher.
00:00:28.283 --> 00:00:30.870
I'm also the yearbook advisor and the department chair.
00:00:31.922 --> 00:00:32.825
You wear a lot of hats.
00:00:33.387 --> 00:00:33.567
I do.
00:00:35.161 --> 00:00:35.521
Wow.
00:00:35.521 --> 00:00:38.331
So what brought you into working in the middle school?
00:00:39.000 --> 00:00:42.881
I first started off teaching about 17 years in high school and I taught.
00:00:42.881 --> 00:00:55.073
I think the lowest grade I taught in high school was 10th grade and I usually taught 11th and 12th grade, and I decided to change when my son went to sixth grade and give middle school a try, because I was just ready to try something different.
00:00:55.636 --> 00:00:56.582
Wow, that's.
00:00:56.582 --> 00:00:57.445
That's wonderful.
00:00:57.445 --> 00:01:01.341
So tell us a little bit about some of the things that you've experienced here.
00:01:01.341 --> 00:01:04.228
Like that you had some wow moment associated with your career.
00:01:04.769 --> 00:01:13.266
Some of my wow moments are some of the rough kids that you think you're not getting through to and they graduate especially when I talk seniors and they graduated.
00:01:13.266 --> 00:01:26.022
And then you get this message in your inbox or Facebook Messenger where they're thanking you for all you've done with them and you might have sent them to the principal's office they went to ISS but then they thank you because they feel like that made a difference in their life.
00:01:26.022 --> 00:01:28.066
So I've had some of those moments.
00:01:28.468 --> 00:01:37.704
That's amazing, that's a wow, that's a 180 on some students and that leads to success, which is something I think we all want to see.
00:01:37.704 --> 00:01:40.936
What are you hoping to get out of the conference now that you're here?
00:01:41.478 --> 00:01:42.722
I'm kind of hoping to get.
00:01:42.722 --> 00:01:48.448
I do yearbook, we do a lot of Canva, so I'm hoping that's going to help me with making the yearbook better.
00:01:48.448 --> 00:01:54.703
But also we're in a changing world where technology is everywhere and the kids that's.
00:01:54.703 --> 00:01:56.390
All they want to focus on is technology.
00:01:56.390 --> 00:02:02.426
So I just want to get with them and get their interest and teach them the best of my ability.
00:02:03.108 --> 00:02:03.650
Wonderful.
00:02:03.650 --> 00:02:11.241
Do you have anything else you'd like to share about your experiences that you'd like to share with the educational technology community?
00:02:12.764 --> 00:02:18.062
The kids really enjoy all the things that y'all bring here and I bring back to the classroom.
00:02:18.062 --> 00:02:31.389
Especially, they love if you can bring and gamify things at school and I've learned some of the new things here at this conference that I plan on taking, especially the short answer we just learned from the guy over there.
00:02:31.389 --> 00:02:36.465
It was kind of gamify and usually you have multiple choice and now I've learned you can do short answer.
00:02:36.465 --> 00:02:40.407
Oh wonderful, so just getting the tools here is very helpful to bring back.
00:02:40.929 --> 00:02:41.550
That's great.
00:02:41.550 --> 00:02:43.081
Well, thank you, Candice.
00:02:43.081 --> 00:02:49.292
Thank you so much for participating with us at Spotlight for Success by American Book Company.
00:02:49.292 --> 00:02:51.495
We hope you have a fantastic conference.
00:02:51.495 --> 00:02:52.483
It goes really well today.
00:02:52.805 --> 00:02:53.165
Thank you.
00:00:00.040 --> 00:00:02.369
00:00:02.369 --> 00:00:08.048
00:00:08.048 --> 00:00:19.251
00:00:19.251 --> 00:00:21.259
00:00:21.259 --> 00:00:23.306
00:00:24.321 --> 00:00:25.464
00:00:25.464 --> 00:00:26.850
00:00:26.850 --> 00:00:28.283
00:00:28.283 --> 00:00:30.870
00:00:31.922 --> 00:00:32.825
00:00:33.387 --> 00:00:33.567
00:00:35.161 --> 00:00:35.521
00:00:35.521 --> 00:00:38.331
00:00:39.000 --> 00:00:42.881
00:00:42.881 --> 00:00:55.073
00:00:55.636 --> 00:00:56.582
00:00:56.582 --> 00:00:57.445
00:00:57.445 --> 00:01:01.341
00:01:01.341 --> 00:01:04.228
00:01:04.769 --> 00:01:13.266
00:01:13.266 --> 00:01:26.022
00:01:26.022 --> 00:01:28.066
00:01:28.468 --> 00:01:37.704
00:01:37.704 --> 00:01:40.936
00:01:41.478 --> 00:01:42.722
00:01:42.722 --> 00:01:48.448
00:01:48.448 --> 00:01:54.703
00:01:54.703 --> 00:01:56.390
00:01:56.390 --> 00:02:02.426
00:02:03.108 --> 00:02:03.650
00:02:03.650 --> 00:02:11.241
00:02:12.764 --> 00:02:18.062
00:02:18.062 --> 00:02:31.389
00:02:31.389 --> 00:02:36.465
00:02:36.465 --> 00:02:40.407
00:02:40.929 --> 00:02:41.550
00:02:41.550 --> 00:02:43.081
00:02:43.081 --> 00:02:49.292
00:02:49.292 --> 00:02:51.495
00:02:51.495 --> 00:02:52.483
00:02:52.805 --> 00:02:53.165
